Moto taxis are the most common mode of transport in and around Santa Elena and of course in most areas of the Yucatan. One has to really concentrate whilst driving around Ticul the nearest large town 10 mins away from Santa Elena. Sometimes it is like taking your life in your own hands as they dart in and out of other traffic as if they were the only ones on the road. Forgetting to stop at stop signs and even running red lights. It can be really scary especial if it is your first time driving around in the Yucatan for the first time.
But there are bonuses…….. Its a good way to get around for the local people , school children get shuttled to and from school in the day. Women are taken into the centre of the village to the moulinero for their daily tortillas and shopping. Picking up people that arrive on the bus from Merida to Campeche after a day shopping in the big city or returning from a Doctors appointment. Also the handful of tourists that like to travel on the great bus service that Mexico supplies.
So with the tourists in mind I asked one taxi driver if he would be interested in advertising on the back of his Moto taxi .
Much to my delight Victor agreed and we went ahead……..
Victor can also take travellers ,who arrive without a car, along the Ruta Puuc for a fee or even to Uxmal… what a great experience and lots of people love it.It makes them feel like they are having a real experience of the interior of the Yucatan. Or even if you do arrive in a car a jaunt around the village is a neat experience
Below you can see the photos of how it turned out………. I am so happy with it that I have thought if anyone else in the village is interested I may be interested in patronizing at least another 2… Lets see
