Corrida/bullfights

Once again the time has rolled around for one of two anual bullfights in Santa Elena

The preparation of the corrida begins at least 4 days before, each área having one family working, cutting Wood and erecting the same

Not only here but in most small towns and villages these corridas are held in the vicinity of the town most in front of the church. But here they hold them on the outside of the village on a playing field. This then leaves the square free to set up the band or group ready for the evenng dance which goes on til the wee hours of the morning.

The sheep dont give a hoot to what is going on around them

I am not really fond of them but I always make an effort to go one night to be a part of the village.I have one favourite spot where I always buy a torta de carnelitas ( sándwich with chopped pork  browned on the grill) They are very tasty and filling

And I dont think anyone will be thinking of going to say a prayer

All the family surround the corrida, grandparents, mothers, fathers, children.babies and dogs

The beer tents are set up with a small group playing girating music for the dancing girls and of course this would not be complete without  a couple of drunks…..

Ahhh! Life in the village…………….
