Tropical fruit but not edible

Tropical fruit is what everyone craves for when visiting tropical climates and of course Yucatan is no different.

But this fruit is not edible and really I am not sure what its purpose is. But mother nature can be a mystery.I asked one of the boys what it is called and they said it was chichic but as for the latin name I have,nt a clue. Maybe you know what it may be.

This plant was given to me by someone in the village which they had found in the

in the jungle  . The leaves give the look of ,Dont touch me!then they drop off and the fruit comes . Its bright and sunny looking with the yellow colour rare fruit 005

shinning in the daylight . I just loved the star shaped part that is attached to the stem  . What a wonderful design mother nature provides.
