Have you ever wondered how these really comfortable swinging hammock chairs came to be made in Mexico…..
They have become popular to hang around the house,by the beach and on the front and back porches of many a home.
Malcom and Barabaranne are an english couple that emmigrated to Vancouver Canada . They started selling Yucatecan hammocks at fairs, camping shows and became a success . From there they opened up a hammock store ,The Hang Out Place ,on the Granville Island a popular place for artisans and the like. Its a very popular place for tourists and the locals that like to wander around the interesting place ,taking time out from their daily routines.
On one of their many trips to Merida , where they stay at the Hacienda San Pedro Nophat, for buying and one time they brought along with them a prototype hammock swinging chair and asked their supplier if it was possible that he and his workers could make them .Which they did and the rest is history. You can read more on their webpage
So even if you dont get to Mexico for your holidays you know you can buy an authentic Yucatecan hammock in Canada but I do believe they ship anywhere in the world.
Malcom and Barbaranne found my place a couple of years ago when they came for dinner one night and now they always stop by and stay a day or two with me here at the Pickled Onion.I enjoy their company immensley and not only that Malcom brings me newspapers from England and I get to play catchup ,although I dont really know whos who anymore since I left england so many years ago, still its intersting to read the news.
So check out their webpage for an interesting read.
